As the city of Worcester, Mass., puts out to bid its police-ordered towing contracts, city councilors are asking administrators to make sure contracted towing companies take credit cards for payment.

According to a news report, the city manager stated that towing companies contracted with the city are required to accept credit cards or have an ATM on site, but the city is receiving complaints that towing companies are requesting cash only for payment, the report said.

The three towing companies hired by the city are in compliance with current requirements, the city manager said, and in a letter to the City Council, the manager also stated that the towing companies have “demonstrated quality performance with very few complaints by the public over the last five years,” according to the report.
