Train Strikes Tractor-Trailer Attached to Tow Truck

Nov 20th, 2010 | By | Category: National News

As a tow truck removed a tractor-trailer stalled on railroad tracks near Wilsonville, Oregon, an approaching train sheared off the rear of the trailer. There were no injuries.

The semi unit became stuck on railroad tracks on Tonquin Road at approximately 1:43 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, news reports said. The semi driver called a towing company, which responded and hooked-up the semi. In the process of removing it from the tracks, an eastbound Portland and Western train collided with the unit, shearing off the last five feet of the trailer.

A Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue public information officer issued a reminder to the public that upon becoming stalled on railroad tracks, motorists should contact a 911 operator for assistance.
