Cape Coral Seeks to Cap Non-Consent Towing RatesNov 29th, 2010 | By Editorial Staff | Category: Florida, National News, State By State News
The city of Cape Coral, Fla., is considering a new towing ordinance that would cap maximum non-consent rates. According to a news report, the proposal was drafted in reaction to charges of predatory non-consent towing and would limit a typical tow fee to $100. The ordinance would also tighten “loopholes” towing companies can use to deny liability if vehicles are damaged when towed, the report said.
Towing companies in violation of the ordinance would face fines of no more than $500 per violation and could have their permits suspended or revoked.
The city council will vote on the proposal at a December 13 meeting.
