Tennessee Man Charged After Attempt to Drive Car off Tow Truck JackOct 27th, 2010 | By Editorial Staff | Category: National News
A Murfreesboro, Tenn., man is facing criminal charges after officials say he tried to leave in his Corvette after it was already being hooked up to a tow truck, according to a news report.
Steven Baldwin drove his car to a MTSU football game Tuesday, Oct. 26, and parked without a permit at a nearby apartment complex. Management at the complex called for a tow truck and tow truck driver Monica Mitchell, with Packs Towing, hooked the car up to a Go Jack device. Before she hooked it to the truck, Baldwin arrived and jumped into the Corvette and backed the car off the device, breaking it in the process, the report states.
Mitchell shot video of the incident on her cell phone. It allegedly shows Baldwin looking at the Go Jack and then getting into his car and backing up, breaking the jack, according to the report.
As Baldwin moved forward in his vehicle, a bystander, Eddie Santader, who said he was trying to help the tow truck driver, claims Baldwin hit him before he could get out of the way. Santader says he suffered a badly bruised knee, the report states.
Police were called to the scene and arrested Baldwin. He is charged with vandalism and aggravated assault.
