A 20-year-old Edmonton, AB, Canada, man was killed Thursday, October 14, after he was shot while stepping into a tow truck that was towing his car, according to a news report.
Scott Shane Brown, identified by police on Friday, was shot before getting into the passenger seat of a tow truck that homicide detectives say was towing his Infiniti car, parked illegally, the report states. The tow truck driver sped off after the shooting with Brown in the passenger’s seat. Brown was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour later.
Police say Brown was not a victim of a random attack. The tow truck belonged to All Star Towing and Recovery, which Brown was also an associate of, according to the news report.
Police believe the killer lost both his shoes and hat while fleeing the scene, and photos of the items have been released to the public in hopes of identifying the person. The shoes are a pair of DC shoes and the hat is an RDS ball cap.
Brown was arrested in Edmonton in August 2008 after a Canada-wide warrant went out for his arrest. He was facing more than a dozen charges after a home robbery in May 2008 and two gun-related incidents, the report states.
In addition to the clothing, officials have a description of the suspect, who they say has a stocky build and was wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
