The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed Washington State towing operator William Padilla has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run, news reports said. Police say Shavelle Lewis, 20, was the driver of an SUV that crossed five lanes of traffic and hit Padilla in the early morning of September 24 on Interstate 5 southbound in Seattle.
Police arrested Lewis on September 24, but court paperwork was not submitted by the State Patrol within the deadline set by the state, and she was released on September 28. A judge issued an arrest warrant yesterday, reports said. Prosecutors have asked for bail to be set at $150,000.
