The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a tow truck and driver who struck a vehicle disabled from a previous accident in Pasco County, Florida. According to news reports, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol said a tow truck thought to be red and yellow in color collided with a truck driven by Joe D. Sampson, 83, on the evening of September 16. Sampson’s vehicle had collided with another vehicle at approximately 8:19 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 301 and U.S. 98. As Sampson’s vehicle sat disabled in the southbound lanes of U.S. 301, the tow truck heading southbound collided with the vehicle and then left the scene, reports said.
Sampson died at the scene. Troopers are searching Pasco, Hernando and Hillsborough Counties, reports said. The tow truck should have front-end damage. The other driver involved in the first collision with Sampson was identified as James Cramer, 39, who is listed in serious condition at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
