Fitchburg Private Property Towing of Abandoned Vehicles a SuccessSep 10th, 2010 | By Editorial Staff | Category: Massachusetts, National News, State By State News
Since the City of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, streamlined its process of identifying and ordering the removal of abandoned vehicles from private property, citizens are complying. According to a news report, out of 140 abandoned vehicles identified by the city, 107 were voluntarily removed.
After receiving notification from the city, if owners do not remove their vehicles, the city’s tow company removes the vehicles and charges $300 per tow per vehicle and places a lien on the home, the report said.
Vehicles abandoned on public ways are handled by the police department, but the transition to having the Board of Health notify owners of vehicles on private property has made the process much faster and easier.
