On July 25, 2014, while maneuvering on a narrow, steep road in Laguna Beach, Calif., a Terex construction crane weighing approximately 94,000 lbs. overturned — its extended boom landing on the roof of a nearby home.
Because of the winding, 9-foot-wide roadway and 13-degree grade, multiple crane companies turned down the job, but five towing companies joined together to tackle the challenge: Anaheim Fullerton Towing of Anaheim, Bill and Wag’s Inc. of Ontario, To’ and Mo’ Towing of Santa Ana, B&D Towing of Santa Ana and Aliso Viejo Towing & Recovery of Lake Forest.
After a complicated session of staging and rigging, the crew uprighted the crane and posed for a victory photo. See the upcoming Tow Times September issue Recovery Review department for the story on the complex crane recovery.
