Wisconsin Towing Association Annual Convention Reminders

The Wisconsin Towing Association annual convention will be held June 17-19 at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. Convention updates are as follows:

A block of 200 rooms for the convention weekend were reserved and as of last week about 100 were taken. The room block is reserved until May 30. After that date, a room can’t be guaranteed. When calling to reserve your room, be sure to indicate you will be attending the WTA convention and reference group number AO4989. If there are problems with reservations ask for Renata Prellwitz in the Group Sales office.

On Friday at the convention, there will be tow truck driver certification testing starting at 2 p.m., but you must pre-register with TRAA. Homer’s Pig Roast Picnic will be held Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. with Homer Schultz of Homer’s Towing in Milwaukee. There will be soft drinks and beer on hand.

Bring toys to donate to the 2011 Tow Trucks for Tots Campaign. No guns or stuffed animals. For your donation, you will be given a chance to win prizes.

A buffet breakfast will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the hospitality tent, for $5 per person. A Towing and Recovery Discussion Roundtable will be held, lead by Bill Tomlinson of Tomlinson’s Inc., and Ashland and Craig Goldbeck of Goldbeck Towing Service in LaCrosse. Tom Drake from Auto Direct Data Services will be attending Saturday to explain reporting requirements and answer questions regarding NVMTIS compliance.

The Ladies Luncheon is Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required and a $5 donation is requested to help support the WTRAA Scholarship Fund. The Kid’s Party starts at 6:30 p.m. for kids up to 10 years old (under five must have supervision), and pre-registration required. The LEGO Tow Truck Contest and the Working Tow Truck Contest will also be held Saturday. Awards will be presented at the 7:15 p.m. Awards Banquet.

WTA encourages operators to bring their trucks and equipment to the show. There will be $1,200 in cash prizes to give away to those bringing a truck this year.

Becoming a Gold, Silver or Bronze Convention Sponsor is also encouraged this year to help WTA maintain the quality of the convention program and keep it affordable for all to attend.
