The killer of a Merced, California tow truck operator received a sentence of life without parole on Tuesday, May 10, from a Merced County judge. Anthony Avilez Trammell, 22, was sentenced on six felony counts, including first- degree murder, in the killing of Randall Armendariz Sr., an employee of Performance Towing of Merced.

News reports say a GMC 1500 pickup was reported stolen from the towing company on Nov. 24, 2008. Armendariz had been looking for the truck and found Trammell with it. During a confrontation between the two men, Trammell shot Armendariz in the head, prosecutors said. Trammell fled the scene but was arrested by Merced police three days later.

Along with the murder charge, Trammell was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm, brandishing a firearm at a peace officer, receiving stolen property and being an active participant in a criminal street gang, a report said.
