A Los Angeles, Calif., woman has been arrested after leading officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen tow truck on Tuesday, May 10, at around 1:30 p.m., according to news reports.

A tow truck driver was about to hook up the woman’s car when she got into the tow truck and drove off. The tow truck driver got into the woman’s car and followed his truck as she headed south on the 5 Freeway, triggering an accident along the way that she did not stop for, reports state.

At one point the hood of the truck flew up, blocking the woman’s view and forcing her to pull over on the shoulder of road. While the truck was still rolling to a stop, she jumped out of the window and began running down the freeway in her bare feet, according to reports. She was quickly caught by police and taken into custody.

The tow truck sideswiped at least one other vehicle during the chase.

The woman’s name was unavailable, according to Los Angeles police Lt. Wayne Lightfoot of the Newton Station, because she was unable to provide identification at the time, she was severely mentally impaired or she was under the influence, a report states. Another report stated the woman appeared to have mental health or drug issues.

She will likely be charged with grand theft auto.
