Kearny, N.J., Towing Operators Seek Rate Increase
Apr 25th, 2011 | By Editorial Staff | Category: National News, New JerseyTowing operators in Kearny, N.J., are asking the city for a rate increase on what they can charge for towing and storage. A news report said representatives from Moran Towing and Afton Auto told city officials that rising fuel and insurance costs have increased the cost of doing business, and the city’s rates have not been adjusted since 1995. Fees the operators have to pay to the state have also risen, the report said.
The current rate is from $40 to $65 for a tow. Towing operators would like to see the rate increased to $100 for towing and $25 for storage.
City officials said that while sympathetic to the operators’ concerns, an analysis conducted a year ago indicated the city’s rates are in line with neighboring municipalities.
