Hooked on HelpingApr 5th, 2013 | By Editorial Staff | Category: Geri Roskopf's Blog
Like many of you, my husband and I have been trying to come up with something to help grow our business. And when I say grow, I mean the bottom line on the balance sheet. Expenses seem to grow all the time, but lately the income hasn’t matched that growth. We know one way to increase revenue is to increase our customer base.
I know word of mouth is the best type of advertising to get new customers, but I felt we really couldn’t rely on assuming our existing customers were passing on the word to other customers about our services. I know that, personally, when I get great service I want to tell everyone about it, so I will often times pick up the company’s business card or brochure to keep on hand not only for myself, but also as a referral to others.
Business cards and pens are great for advertising. They’re easy to hand out and very economical to print, but I wanted something different to give to our customers — something on which our name and phone number would be visible and useful — and not put away in a wallet or drawer. We tossed around a few ideas for a promotional item that would not only have our name on it, but also have some sort of memorable tag line.
I really like the phrase hooked on helping as I think it says exactly what we do, but when I ran it by a few people outside of towing, guess what? When they heard the phrase they thought of fishing. Yikes! Not good —back to the drawing board.
One of the people I asked about the phrase told me she is always looking for scrap pieces of paper to write down reminders when she’s in her car, and when customers leave my office I often tell them I “hope they have a better day.” So with these two ideas in mind, we had small sticky notepads printed up with our company information on them along with the phrase Helping you Have a Better Day.
We’re still hooked on helping, just saying it a different way.
