Winch Lubricant Checks are a Must

Mar 23rd, 2011 | By | Category: Tow Tip

The most common winch on a tow truck or carrier is a worm drive winch in which a steel worm gear drives a brass gear wheel, which in turn turns the winch drum. With only a pint or so of lubricant in the winch, a small leak can very easily have serious consequences so checking the lubricant level regularly is a must. See the Tow Times March issue (“Winch Lubrication”) for tips on how to check the winch oil level, and extend the life of this vital piece of equipment.
