Virginia State Police Targeting Illegal Towing for Scrap

Mar 4th, 2011 | By | Category: National News, Virginia

The Virginia State Police is offering rewards of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of those who illegally tow abandoned, disabled or unattended vehicles. Due to the rising price of scrap metal, these vehicles are being taken from roadsides, private property and public parking lots, a news report said. The vehicles that are being stolen are usually older, heavier models.

The State Police’s statewide program Help Eliminate Auto Theft (H.E.A.T) offers the rewards, and those offering information about illegal towing or salvage yards that purchase these vehicles can remain anonymous.
