Learn Something New Every DayMar 23rd, 2012 | By Editorial Staff | Category: Geri Roskopf's Blog
Each day as my two kids headed off to school, I told them to have a good day and to “learn something.” I believe we all should learn something new every day. Most often we actually do, without really knowing or trying.
My husband Jeff and I attended the TRAA Legislative and Leadership Conference, which was just held in Washington, D.C. I have attended the conference with him for the past three years. Prior to that he attended the conference with some other Wisconsin Towing Association members, because normally it’s hard for both of us to be away from the business at this time of the year.
Needless to say, we didn’t have to worry about getting a snowstorm while we were gone this year — record high temps were in the forecast. It has been unbelievably weird and warm weather for the month of March.
I believe that once again, the conference offered a lot of topics to learn something new for the challenges facing the towing industry. Helpful tips on how to run your business, additional ways to find revenue besides towing, updates on the Hours of Service, the use of cell phones in commercial vehicles, and radio communication between towers and law enforcement.
There was also a presentation on smart phones. I thought this was a great topic for the conference as we were all there to learn something and hopefully we did and are lots smarter. Although with the cost of those smart phones, I’m not sure if the decision to purchase them for my employees is really a smart one at this time.
