A Bessemer, N.C., man was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 16, on charges of driving while impaired, according to a news report.
Richard Lee Ballew, 30, was in a vehicle being pulled by a truck with a towing strap around 9:30 p.m. when Gaston County Police Officer G.H. Dow pulled the pair over. Dow noticed that Ballew had bloodshot eyes and alcohol on his breath. He also had an open bottle of liquor and an open bottle of beer in the car with him, according to the report.
Ballew was arrested and booked into Gaston County Jail under a $5,000 bond. He has a 2005 conviction for DWI on his record. He has been booked into Gaston County Jail nine times since April 2008, the report states.
