A report on Fox 2 News www.myfoxdetroit.com says the City of Detroit, Michigan, may be changing the way it handles the City’s towing business. Towing in the City has been under the Detroit Police Department, but now there is a proposal to transfer operations to an outside management company to bring accountability to prevent vehicle owners from paying excessive storage fees, and to enable them to locate vehicles more efficiently.

According to the report, complaints and corruption have spurred City officials to look into a new way to handle oversight of the multi-million dollar industry. The proposal faces some controversy as to how it will affect city towing companies, scrap businesses and jobs. More details on the proposal will be released in coming weeks, the report said.
