An Auburn, Calif. tow truck operator was struck and killed Monday Feb. 2 while assisting a motorist with a disabled school bus on Highway 50 near El Dorado Hills. According to a news report, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the unidentified operator had hooked up the bus on the right shoulder of the highway and was operating controls at the left rear of the tow truck when a white box van drifted off the roadway and hit the rear and left side of the bus, and then struck the operator, who died at the scene.
The 41-year-old driver of the van, a Pollock Pines man, and the school bus driver were taken to UC Davis Medical Center. The van driver suffered moderate injuries. The driver of the school bus, who had purchased the 1962 bus to restore and use as a recreational vehicle for his personal use, had minor injuries.
