New York Association Working to Add Tow Trucks to Move Over LawJan 13th, 2011 | By Editorial Staff | Category: National News, New York, State By State News
As story on New York’s Fox23news.com focuses on towing operators who are frustrated to be left out of the state’s Move Over law. The law, which took effect on January 1, 2011, requires motorists to switch lanes when encountering emergency vehicles on the roadside. The law does not include “hazard vehicles,” the report says, such as tow trucks and DOT trucks.
Towing operators Tom Brennan of T&T Towing and Peter Cary of Capital District Towing cited examples of how towing operators face danger on the roadside, and attorney and Empire State Towing and Recovery Association lobbyist Peter O’Connell stated that efforts have been underway to get legislation passed to include tow trucks since 2003. O’Connell is meeting with legislators this week regarding a separate bill to include tow trucks, the report said.
